Why Volunteer?

“It has been a mission of mine this year to let the public know that Berkshire Realtors® are helping the community in many ways”, said Street. “We help not only buyers and sellers, but also homeowners and residents through our involvement in the community and by getting legislation passed to improve home and investment property rights.”

The Beginning…

Sherry began her real estate career in 1993, belonging to the National, Massachusetts and Berkshire Realtor® Trade Associations. Sherry’s volunteer commitment to the Berkshire Association has spanned many years, having begun in 1995 as a member of the Realtor® Community Service Committee, and her subsequent service as Chair of the Education Committee for three consecutive years. Sherry is a dedicated member of the Professional Standards Committee, and serves on several other committees, in addition to her service as a voting member of the Berkshire County Multiple Listing Service.

The Local Perspective

When asked about the most valuable service she has participated in, Sherry replied, “The Realtor® organization means a lot to me. Between the community service projects that we do, and the professional standards ethics and arbitration process we administer, I think we are giving back a whole lot to the community. Just last year alone, the Realtors® raised almost $19,000 for local charities and that doesn’t even count the volunteer hours donated by the membership. We also have a pool of about 30 Realtors® countywide who take time to train and sit on ethic and arbitration panels to make sure that the Realtor® name represents competency, fairness and high integrity.”

As a Director of the Massachusetts Association of Realtors® and as Delegate to the National Association of Realtors®, Sherry has traveled extensively this year to bring the Berkshire perspective to state and national policymaking. In addition to presidential and director meetings throughout Massachusetts, she is also the Berkshire Board representative at national meetings in Chicago and Washington D.C. “The Berkshire real estate market has land use, environmental and development issues that influence a transaction differently than other regions. I appreciate being able to make sure that the state and national leadership understand not only how real estate transactions proceed in Berkshire County, but also to emphasize the different needs of our North, Central and Southern Berkshire markets.”

Education Assets

During her real estate career, Sherry has earned the Graduate Realtor® Institute Designation (GRI), and the Certified Buyer Representative Designation (CBR). Sherry offers both buyer and seller representation. It was during Sherry’s tenure as Chair of the Realtor® Education Committee that launched the first ever Certified Buyer Representative program in Berkshire County, and the committee has since continued to provide all types of professional designation and development programs for Berkshire real estate agents.

Berkshire Community Support & Activities

In addition to her contributions to the Berkshire County Board of Realtors®, Sherry has also served as a member of the Berkshire United Way Committee, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and is a member of the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce. Sherry participates in several fundraising activities throughout the year with the Berkshire Realtor® Association such as the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Red Cross Christmas Wrapping at the Berkshire Mall and sales of Daffodils for the American Cancer Society Daffodil Days. Sherry is also a communicant of the Middlefield Congregational Church.

And now…

Married to Jim Street for 7 years, they reside in the town of Middlefield. As the 2001 Berkshire County Realtor® of the Year, Sherry will now be competing for the Massachusetts REALTOR of the Year title at the State Convention held in October.
